Face to Face: Encountering God on the Mountain Mountains in scripture are rarely just scenery; they are the thin places where heaven meets earth, where humanity encounters divine providence. Mountains in scripture are places of absolute exposure, terrifying holiness, and breathtaking intimacy. At Harbor 2027, we invite you to ascend. Our theme, “Face to Face: Encountering God on the Mountain,” takes us on a journey through the rugged peaks of biblical history to discover what happens when God calls his people out of the valleys and into His presence. Throughout our time together, we will explore the defining summits of the biblical narrative, looking to texts like the Burning Bush, the Ten Commandments, Abraham and Isaac, Moses and the Judges, the prophets of Baal, and Mount Hermon to witness the Transfiguration of Jesus. The mountains of these texts remind us that encountering God changes our vantage point and perspectives. We do not summit a peak and return to the valley unchanged.
